When the INEOS Grenadier arrived on the American market for 2024, it marked a throwback to the days of the "blank canvas" SUV. As an unofficial successor to the original body-on-frame Land Rover Defender, the Grenadier has the look, feel, and performance of a heavy-duty off-road vehicle with a sophisticated touch. Furthermore, while many SUV makers have limited their factory customization in recent years, the Grenadier goes the opposite direction. INEOS encourages buyers to personalize their SUVs with oodles of accessories and add-ons so your Grenadier is unlike any other.
Here at Hendrick INEOS Grenadier of Charleston, we have this off-road luxury SUV for sale and can help you design a Grenadier that’s made to order. While you can get some accessories automatically by choosing options like the Trialmaster Edition, Fieldmaster Edition, and 1924 Limited Edition, INEOS makes all of its features available on the base Grenadier. The question is, how do you go about customizing your rig? We’re here with some tips for customizing a Grenadier SUV or pickup, including highlights from the many options and a few suggested builds from the rugged to the extravagant.
Utility and Off-Roading Components
As an off-road vehicle foremost, it’s no surprise there are plenty of ways to make the Grenadier more capable on rough terrain. These include updates to the chassis, suspension, and drivetrain, as well as accessories for towing and hauling.
Let’s start with ways you can improve driving performance and safety. INEOS offers rear and front locking differentials to boost traction on slippery surfaces (a locking center differential is standard). You can add a raised air intake and cyclone pre-cleaner to help keep the engine from ingesting water and debris. The optional Class III tow hitch has a seven-pin connector and is adjustable for off-road use. A front towing plate is also available. With an integrated 12,125 lb winch and recovery kit, you can get out of any jam. There’s also an LED light bar for better visibility, plus an auxiliary battery and 400W power take-off to run equipment.
As for general utility, you can add side runners and rock plates to protect the undercarriage. The runners also function as a vehicle step, and with checker plates, you can use the fender as a step to reach the roof. You can choose from multiple roof rack and crossbar options for storing everything from luggage to dirt bikes; specific mounts are available for surfboards, kayaks, sand ladders, and more. Finally, there’s an enhanced emergency roadside kit that contains a fire extinguisher and other supplies.
Exterior Customization
Although some of the exterior options were covered in the previous section, there are plenty of other ways to make your Grenadier look great, add functionality, or both. You can get 17-inch wheels for more comfort or 18-inch wheels to improve handling with a sporty aesthetic. Both are available in strong, affordable steel or high-performance aluminum alloy. You can ride on Bridgestone or BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires, with the former offering better on-road capability and the latter upping the ante off-road. Eleven different body colors are available for jaw-dropping beauty, with options for a contrasting roof and frame.
Here are some of the other Grenadier exterior upgrades we love:
- Overhead safari windows that can be opened or removed for open-air driving.
- An access ladder provides another way to reach the roof.
- Heat-reflective privacy glass helps cool the cockpit on scorching days.
- A lockable spare tire storage box provides additional secure storage.
- A national flag plaque lets you showcase patriotic pride.
Interior Goodies
Open a door and hop into the INEOS Grenadier for even more personalization. It begins at your feet, where you can replace the standard utility flooring with soft carpeting. Rubber or carpeted floor mats are offered to protect the main floor from dirt and water. In the cargo area, you can add numerous accessories to help organize and protect luggage, including utility rails, cargo nets, a cargo cabin barrier, and a tailgate table.
As for the seats, you can add leather trim, heavy-duty covers, and front seat heating, depending on whether practicality or comfort is more important. There are multiple infotainment upgrades as well to complement the 12.3-inch touchscreen and full wireless connectivity. An integrated compass with an altimeter is available to find your bearings, and so is a subwoofer and larger amplifier to get more zest from the sound system. Remember the winch and other accessories we mentioned earlier? A ceiling-mounted high-load switch panel lets you control everything from one spot.
Potential Custom Builds
Now that we’ve gone over all of these great upgrades let’s talk about which ones you should get on your vehicle. Everyone has their own goals, of course, but some common use cases can help form the foundation of a build. Here are four potential INEOS Grenadier load-outs to use as a starting point.
#1 - An Extreme Off-Road Adventurer
The Grenadier was born from off-roading, and you can make yours ready to crawl over rocks or bash through dunes with authority. For this configuration, we recommend both locking differentials plus the air intake, cyclone pre-cleaner, BFGoodrich tires, 17-inch wheels, winch, rubber floor mats, and seat covers. Which roof racks and access features you get are up to personal preference, as is the wheel material; steel wheels are generally more durable, while alloy wheels have better brake cooling.
#2 - A Beastly Overlanding Rig
If you prefer to take in nature rather than storm through it, a camping or overlanding Grenadier will do the trick. The center differential should be sufficient for this, but you’ll likely want the tires, winch, and interior items of the off-roader. From there, lean toward steel wheels for durability and consider adding the access ladder, heated front seats, safari panels, full roof rack, cargo organizers, and compass. An available exterior utility belt gives you attachment points for storage racks, awnings, and other gear.
#3 - A Sturdy Work Vehicle
This 4x4 will work just as hard on the job site as it does on the trails. You’ll want it in the Quartermaster pickup truck variant with the Class III tow hitch, so you can take advantage of the 7,716 lb towing capacity and five-foot bed. Strongly consider the auxiliary battery, power take-off, full roof rack, and access ladder. Other accessories like roof tool brackets and work lamp brackets will help you get ready for big projects.
#4 - A Luxurious Everyday SUV
Who says the Grenadier can’t be great on the streets? The standard Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel, instrument panel handle, and handbrake grip can be further enhanced with carpet flooring, carpet floor mats, leather trim, and heated seats. Use alloy wheels for their enhanced modern style, and grab the premium sound system for your favorite tunes. With the Smooth Pack, you get parking sensors, heated side mirrors, heated windshield washer jets, ambient door lighting, and other features you’ll love.
Start Your Grenadier Journey
As you can see, the Grenadier is like an art studio that gives you all the tools to paint a masterpiece, and none of them are restricted to specific trims. From barebones off-roading to high-class city driving, anything is possible. The many customization options come on top of a beefy powertrain, a host of driver assistance features, and other essentials to get you to your destination.
