Regular maintenance is essential for vehicles to stay in peak operating condition. For an off-road specific vehicle like the INEOS Grenadier, it’s especially important. Compared to a typical road-going vehicle, off-roaders are more susceptible to wear and tear. Therefore, proactive and timely service is imperative to their long-term health and performance.

INEOS’ recommended service intervals maintain the Grenadier’s durability, reliability, and performance. Service visits should occur every 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. If you’re putting your Grenadier through heavy use, service frequency should increase to every 6,000 miles. In this guide, we’ll highlight some key maintenance areas and explain their significance so you can keep your Grenadier performing at its best for the long haul.

ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
OIL AND FLUID CHANGES
The main function of engine oil is lubrication, reducing friction so all engine components work together efficiently. When oil degrades or becomes contaminated, engine protection becomes increasingly difficult. This can lead to dips in performance and even significant damage. Furthermore, off-road elements can increase the likelihood of contamination. Fresh and clean oil will help engine components operate harmoniously, resulting in reliable performance. Oil changes are part of the 12,000/6,000-mile service interval recommendation.

The same principle applies to engine coolant, which aids your vehicle’s cooling system in regulating engine temperature. Overlanding, towing and hauling, and other 4x4 activities require an engine to work harder. If coolant levels are not appropriate, engines become prone to overheating. Regularly check that your coolant reservoir is at the correct level so your engine can operate at a safe and optimal temperature.

AIR FILTER REPLACEMENTS
A vehicle has two essential air filters – the engine air filter and the cabin air filter. The engine air filter provides clean air to the engine, while the cabin air filter traps dust and allergens from the air that enters the interior cabin. When you take the Grenadier off-road, dirt, dust, and debris are far more prevalent. As filters work to capture these contaminants, they may become clogged and dirty much quicker than filters in vehicles that stay on paved surfaces. The Grenadier should receive fresh air filters every two years or 24,000 miles. However, off-road enthusiasts should monitor and replace their filters more frequently. Regularly replacing air filters helps the engine run smoothly and keeps the cabin air fresh and clean.

TIRE HEALTH
If a 4x4’s tires are not properly maintained, its off-road prowess will suffer. One of the easiest ways to care for your tires is to monitor their pressure levels. Ensure all tires stay inflated to INEOS’ recommended PSI levels, including your spare! All Grenadiers come with a full-size spare tire. Hopefully, you never need to use it, but if you do, it must be properly inflated to keep you going.

You should also keep a watchful eye on tread depth. Off-road terrains can accelerate tire wear, reducing traction and handling. If you notice uneven wear or balding, it may be time for replacements. However, there are steps you can take to extend tire life. Regular rotations help distribute wear evenly, improving longevity and performance. A good rule of thumb is to perform tire rotations around every 5,000 miles, but our technicians can assess your tires and advise you on when a rotation is needed. When the tires on your Grenadier are in peak condition, you’re ready to conquer the toughest terrains.

BATTERY STRENGTH
The INEOS Grenadier’s battery gives it life. Essentially, every vehicle component relies on the battery to operate. So, when it’s not functioning correctly, your adventures hit a roadblock. Off-roading can take a serious toll on a battery system for several reasons. Stronger vibrations, extreme conditions, and increased power demands can loosen connections and strain the battery. Routinely check your Grenadier’s battery. Make sure it’s securely fastened, the terminals are free from corrosion, and there are no noticeable signs of weakness or delay. The result of a full-strength battery is reliable performance anytime, anywhere.

OFF-ROAD MAINTENANCE
TRANSMISSION CARE

The Grenadier’s eight-speed automatic transmission grants drivers supreme control and fluid shifting in any condition. This is an admirable quality of 4x4s, but at the same time, the demands of off-roading and hauling heavy loads can place added stress on a transmission system. Just as we discussed with oil and coolant, it’s imperative to monitor your transmission fluid. If fluid levels are low or the quality has diminished, transmissions are at risk of failing, which is an expensive repair. The good news is that topping off and adjusting transmission fluid is part of the Grenadier’s regular service interval. A well-cared-for transmission will help you climb steep hills, navigate unforgiving terrain, and cover long stretches of highways with ease.

INSPECT SUSPENSION SYSTEM
If you plan to take your Grenadier off-road, you’re sure to encounter a variety of uneven surfaces. That’s why the Grenadier includes a heavy-duty coil spring suspension system that adapts to different terrains and changing loads. While this suspension system is highly capable and durable, off-roading can inevitably lead to significant wear and tear. If any components of the suspension system are in less-than-optimal condition, ride quality and performance will ultimately suffer. Regularly inspecting the suspension system ensures all components are in good working order and keeps your Grenadier running strong.

CARING FOR BRAKES
The brakes on any vehicle require regular maintenance, but this is especially important for off-road vehicles because their brakes often endure more intense use. The brakes on a 4x4 can wear down sooner than anticipated, particularly when used for overlanding. Brake system checks include a thorough inspection of the brake pads, rotors, and fluid levels. Proper brake service guarantees optimal stopping power on any surface. This improves off-road performance while keeping you safe and confident behind the wheel.

CLEAN & PROTECT
Off-road adventures can leave your Grenadier covered in mud, dirt, and debris from top to bottom. It’s smart to show your Grenadier some TLC because the buildup of these materials can cause paint to fade or rust and protective coatings to diminish. Wash your vehicle as soon as possible after off-roading to help preserve its exterior.

The interior deserves attention too, as outside elements can easily find their way inside. Fortunately, INEOS designed the Grenadier for quick and hassle-free cleaning. With water-resistant materials and removable drain plugs throughout, you can easily eliminate any traces of your latest adventure. Riding in a fresh, clean car not only feels great but also contributes to the overall health and longevity of your vehicle.
